Review- Littlelovebum newbie nappy

Cloth nappies were a big part of Rose’s baby days. I spent a long time trying to find my feet, making mistakes and learning an awful lot of new vocabulary (what exactly is wicking anyway?) By the time Rose potty trained early this year I felt like I pretty much understood everything there was.

So when I decided I was going to use cloth nappies from birth with my second born, I didn’t think there was much else I needed to know. How wrong was I! Newborns are heavy wetters, and they are too small for most conventional nappies, even those labelled birth to potty. Robin is bigger than the average newborn, and it still took him more than 6 weeks to get a good fit in his.

So before birth to potty, the options are disposable or newborn nappies, and I chose to take the second.

It was at this point, I met Taryn from Littlelovebum. She has single handedly started her own nappy business based locally to me and has created several totally unique and original nappies, such as the everyday which is the first all in one to utilise the power of hemp and the quickdry which uses coffee fibres for it’s absorbant properties.

The newbie nappy is perfectly designed for tiny babies and their delicate behinds. They are lined with a lusciously soft mix of bamboo and velour and comes with a handy booster to help with absorbency. It comes in a delightful range of prints and I was truly spoilt for choice with bold prints, bright patterns and quirky designs.

For extra tiny babies, there are crossover poppers and three rows of rises. However, little Robin never got to use them being such a big boy, but I assume they are very useful for littler ones. 💙

The newbie is also designed with leg cuffs, which do need tucking in and fitting correctly to stop leaks. The outlayer is waterproof, so no additional covers or wraps are needed.

Overall, we found the newbie nappy to be one of the easiest to work in our cloth collection as they involved no preparation, folding or stuffing. We are in a very unique position, in that Robin’s first ever nappy was put on him by a neonatal nurse and she had no issues doing it at all, which I think is a real achievement.

I did notice, that after a few washes, the bamboo velour came out of the machine a lot tougher to the touch. However, this was easily fixed by either a quick air dry in the tumble drier or by rubbing the nappies and boosters together, so no harm done at all.

I am so grateful for the newbie nappy in getting us through the early days of cloth nappies and I’m going to be so sad when Little Robin grows out of them. But on the bright side, it will be fun seeing what else Littlelovebum has in store and exploring their birth to potty options!

  1. Love your review!
I use a mix of the Everyday and Quickdry on my 19mo and they fit beautifully after spending a fortune on other brands. Taryn is so helpful – her customer service alone is reason enough to use her!
